bandhappy.com - Phase 1
This project is covered by an NDA. Therefore, Jonathan Rivlin (a primary owner of bandhappy.com and The Intune, LLC) has written a description for use in my portfolio. The attached screenshots are the only ones that I can use publicly, but there are about 9 more that I can share on request.
Chad Hester was an invaluable part of our team and we would not be able to proceed without his dedication, knowledge, and attention to detail. Read more »
EmeraldEducationSystems.com Phase 2
The site has a completely re-coded theme that uses an SEO-optimized, tableless layout. This theme corrects the column layout such that the content of any column will push down the height of the other columns. Also, this is now a fluid-width theme instead of a fixed width theme, which takes full advantage of a user's window size.. More improvements will follow during the course of this year. Read more »

Dell Inspiron 9400

Surprisingly, I still love my Dell Inspiron 9400. I purchased this laptop, beefed up to top specs, for about $4500 about 5 years ago. It still keeps up with most video games like Left 4 Dead 2, but grinds to a halt on games like GTA 4. I've left this PC on for almost the entire 5 years, every day, with absolutely no heat issues. At about 8lbs, though, this is hardly a "lap"-top and I use it more like a slightly portable desktop. For more heavy travel or couch-use I would consider/suggest something between a netbook and a tablet PC, <4lbs. As with any of my PCs, I dual-boot between Ubuntu and the latest Windows version. Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10 run like a champ. Read more »
Full Screen
Be it the F11 key, Ctrl + F, Alt + Enter, or one of the many other combinations, "Full-Screen Mode" is something available in many popular computer applications. If you're short on screen space, this is practically a requirement. These are typically toggle switches, so just remember what you pressed and you can flip back and forth.
Dominion Oak Barrel Stout

Brewer:
Old Dominion Brewing Co.

Year:
2009
|
5.20% ABV

|
Style:
Stout
|
Format/Container:
Bottle - Brown
|
Score:
28/30

Now THIS is my kind of beer. Thick and full of flavor. You can smell what you're in store for right after the pour. The label reads:
"Dominion Oak Barrel Stout raises the bar for American stouts. Our method of dry-hopping with vanilla beans & oak chips broadens out stouts flavor spectrum even further."
This truly lives up to the beerish descriptors of "liquid bread" or "meal in a bottle". I would recommend this beer to anyone that likes a good coffee-like or chocolate-like beer. This is, thankfully, NOT a thin beer.
Beer Reviews Redeployed!
Like I said, beer reviews needed a better approach than my original attempt. I'm sure there will be other things to tweak later, but this should be a sufficient starting point for data collection.
PPLVR.com Phase 1
Principles and Practice of Low Vision Rehabilitation is an online social network and continuing education coursework for the low vision medical community. I developed this website using Drupal.
The theme design is currently a table-based layout, given it's complexity and the time requirement, but will be redesigned in Phase 2 of this project. There are several custom content types, workflows, and very granular permissions in place to maintain tight control over the content and its accessibility in this community. Read more »

Redeploying beer reviews
The more I learn the more I realize what I have yet to know. Beer reviews are being reshaped and redeployed with more categories and 5-star ratings per category. More research needed, so this is clearly a work-in-progress. That is, however, why I'm doing these reviews... well, and to find the best way to catalog my experience with great brews!
These categories will contain, in a standardized order:
- Pour
- Appearance
- Aroma
- First Sip
- Mouthfeel
- Finish
Advice welcome, of course!
